Tang Soo Do is translated as "The Way of the Tang (or Chinese) Hand". Tang Soo Do is a Korean system of self-defense that comprises techniques for kicking, punching and blocking. The techniques are derived from "Tae Kyon," an ancient Korean self-defense system, and traditional Japanese Karate.

Tang Soo Do was developed in the middle of the 20th century by Grandmaster Hwang Kee. Tang Soo Do resembles Tae Kwon Do, a sister art, although it differs notably in its emphasis on mental and spiritual development and self-competition rather than sportive competition. The techniques involve both traditional linear kicking and punching as well as circular hand, foot, and body movements. Together, the techniques are designed to help the student learn to incorporate all of their body motions in strategies of self-defense.
